Track Runner Hits Opponent with Baton, Claims It Was an Accident
During the state championship relay race at Liberty University, Alaila Everett from I.C. Norcom High School accidentally struck Kaelen Tucker from Brookville High School in the head with a baton. The incident, which occurred on March 4, 2025, resulted in Tucker suffering a concussion and a possible skull fracture.
Everett insists the strike was unintentional, explaining that her baton got stuck behind Tucker's back, causing her to lose balance. Despite her explanation, Everett has faced significant backlash, including death threats and racist insults.
The Virginia High School League disqualified Everett's team and is investigating the incident. The track community remains divided over the incident, with some calling for stricter penalties and others supporting Everett.
