GIVING TUESDAY: West Florida Foster Care Services

It's Giving Tuesday!

Today we're talking with Janet Rinaldi, Director of Family Advocacy for West Florida Foster Care Services, Inc.

There are over 3,400 children in foster care in Hillsborough County, and that number is growing. Their annual Twinkle in the Terrace Christmas party is coming up on December 17th. WFFCS depends on the generosity of the Tampa Bay community to provide toys, stocking stuffers, and other goodies for children in care.

Twinkle in the Terrace is "a magical holiday event supporting children in foster care, and the families that care for them, while raising community awareness of the foster care crisis in Hillsborough County." The event is free and open to the public. Last year, over 200 children were provided with stockings and gifts.

There is also a great need for foster parents in Hillsborough County. Far too often, children enter foster care and there are no open homes for them. Foster care is hard, and yes, foster parents do get "too attached", but they also say it is incredibly rewarding. If you're interested in learning more about becoming a foster parent, you can sign up for a free informational session.

If you would like to donate to WFFCS to help with this year's Twinkle in the Terrace, you can shop their Amazon Wish List or make a monetary donation.
