To avoid getting handcuffed, one South Florida man hid behind his 90-year-old grandmother before being shot with a taser by an officer.
Jarred Evans, 30, was arrested by Miami Police on Thursday near the Candela Bar Brickell near Miami. He was charged with battery and resisting an officer without violence.
The scuffle began after a witness reported seeing Evans pushing a woman. Investigators say that when officers attempted to place him under arrest, he began resisting, walking away, and shouting at officers.
According to NBC Miami, when the officer started to handcuff the suspect, he pulled away, and then the officer pulled out his stun gun and told Evans several times to put his hands behind his back, police said.
"The defendant refused and grabbed his grandmother and used her as a shield so he would not get tased," the arrest report stated.
Ultimately, an officer deployed a taser, and Evans was handcuffed and booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
