LISTEN: 911 Audio Released From Sarasota County Alligator Attack

The Sarasota County Sheriff's office has released the audio of the 911 call from a man who witnessed an elderly woman fall into a canal at the Boca Royale Golf & Country Club last Friday.

The 70-year-old caller was playing golf at the course's sixth hole when he saw the woman, Rose Marie Wiegand, fall into the pond. That's when he called 911 begging for help.

“She was screaming, I tried to get to her, and she went under. I just couldn’t find her. I thought I was gonna die. Oh God, my chest hurts," he told the dispatcher.

About 6 minutes into the call, another man made his way over and went to check on the woman as the first man stayed on the phone.

After going toward the canal to check on her and seeing alligators around, he returned to say that the woman was deceased.

According to WFLA News Channel 8, medical examiner Russell Vega said Wiegand was killed in an accidental alligator attack after she fell into the canal.
