'Emoji Drug Decoder' Helps Parents Know If Children Are Texting About Drugs

These emojis may be innocent by themselves, but they can smell some serious trouble when they are put together! The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) has released a drug-emoji decoder to help parents identify whether or not their teens are texting about illegal drugs.

Shane Catone is the Deputy Special Agent in charge of the DEA’s Chicago Division and told Fox 32 Chicago, "The reason why we put it out is we were looking at social media and we had a bunch of overdoses that we've identified. Doing our investigation, the intelligence aspect of it, we realized there was a bunch of emojis showing up on the phones of some of the deceased."

"They are advertising this now on Snapchat. On Facebook. Facebook Messenger," Catone said. "These applications are doing 24-hour ads that have these emojis and code words in them."

The DEA expects this emoji chart to grow rapidly, so parents should check it periodically to see if anything new has been added. Check out the emoji chart HERE.
