In a heartbreaking freak accident over the weekend, officials have identified 37-year-old Sean Nagel as the man who unfortunately died due to a sand dune that collapsed and buried him alive.
Nagel, from Stuart, was enjoying the sunrise at Rock Beach on Hutchinson Island early Sunday morning when the accident happened. A passerby noticed a pair of feet sticking up in the air and called for help.
The release from the sheriff's office stated that detectives believe that Nagel was lying underneath a sand dune with his feet up while recording a video of the sunrise between 5 and 6 a.m. when the dune collapsed, trapping him.
The death was confirmed by Nagels' older brother, who shared his grief on Facebook.
