Bermuda Braces for Cat 4 Hurricane Earl

(Miami, FL) -- Bermuda is bracing for a "major" hurricane as Earl intensifies in the Atlantic. A hurricane watch is now in effect for Bermuda as the Category Two storm barrels toward the island.

Hurricane Earl is currently about 320 miles south of Bermuda with maximum sustained winds of 100 miles per hour, and is expected to intensify into a "major" Category Four storm later today.

The eye of the storm is expected to pass south of Bermuda this afternoon, lashing the island with tropical-storm-force winds.

Hurricane Earl is also expected to cause rough surf along the U.S. East Coast through the weekend, including dangerous rip currents.
