Where to get sandbags in great Tampa & Sarasota areas

Hernando County

In preparation for Tropical Storm Eta, a limited supply of sand and sandbags will be available today (11/11/2020) beginning at 10 a.m. at the following location. Please bring your own shovel. Call in advance.

Linda Pedersen Park - 6300 Shoal Line Boulevard Spring Hill, FL 34607

Tips on how to properly fill and stack your sandbags

  • Fill bags one-half to two-thirds of the way full
  • Over-filled bags will result in a leaky sandbag wall
  • Stack sandbags so that the seams between the bags are staggered
  • Tuck the top of each bag under to ensure that that bag is sealed by its own weight

This self-serve sandbag site will remain open until weather conditions begin to deteriorate.

Hernando County Government’s Office of Emergency Management continues to monitor and inform our community about storm impacts. Visit the following web and social media sites for more information.

Sandbag Pickup

The City of Tampa's policy has been to provide sand and sandbags to our citizens to protect their property from flooding.

Sandbags are only available after an emergency declaration has been made. If you need sandbags for additional structural support, every property owner in the City of Tampa is entitled to receive ten sandbags per storm event. Depending on the expected severity of the storm one or more locations may be activated as a distribution site.

Check for Active Distribution Sites

We encourage you to confirm the activated distribution sites for each storm event at www.tampagov.net/news and on Twitter @AlertTampa

Tampa residents interested in receiving sandbags must show identification verifying residence within the city limits. A valid driver's license, utility bill, or electric bill will serve as appropriate identification.

Pinellas County

Sandbags are no longer being distributed from county locations.

Sandbags are made available by Pinellas County and local municipalities at certain times prior to flooding emergencies. Citizens can monitor this web page for updated County information. There are flood barrier options available other than sandbags. The County does not recommend one option over another or guarantee their success. But we want to make sure our citizens are aware that there are newer methods and systems available that might fit their particular home flooding protection needs. Citizens can find additional flood control options by searching the web for“Home Flood Protection Barriers”.

Sandbags are available through local home improvement stores, sand sold separately.
