Governor Urges Coastal Residents to Obey Evacuation Orders

Governor Ron DeSantis is urging residents to obey all evacuation orders that have been issued by local governments. He says Hurricane Dorian is a powerful Category 5 hurricane that will come perilously close to the state and vulnerable residents need to clear out ahead of the storm.

Communities in Palm Beach, St. Lucie, and Marin counties have issued evacuation orders for mobile home parks and low-lying areas that easily flood during heavy storms. Similar orders are expected in Brevard and Volusia counties as Dorian gets closer.

The outer bands of Hurricane Dorian could start to hit Florida on Monday and it could still be lashing the Florida coast Wednesday into Thursday. The current track calls for the eye of Dorian to remain off the coast, but hurricane force winds extend 45-miles from the center of the storm so it is still capable of causing significant damage along Florida's Atlantic coast.
