Hillsborough County Public Schools - School Open Friday

Post from the Hillsborough County Public Schools: Hurricane Dorian Resources --

Hillsborough County Public Schools is in constant contact with the Hillsborough County Emergency Operations Center concerning Hurricane Dorian. The latest forecast shows the storm is moving more slowly and is still several days away from impacting Florida.

Based on guidance from county emergency management, school will be open on Friday and we will have our normal arrival and dismissal schedules. All after-school activities, including sporting events, will be held as scheduled on Friday.

We will continue to monitor the storm throughout the weekend and will provide you with an update on the storm’s path.

As you know, Monday is a day off from school for Labor Day. We will send out updates about school next week once officials have a clearer picture of the storm’s path.

When it comes to opening or closing our schools, we must take many things into consideration, including possible road closures, high winds, damage to school buildings, power outages and whether our schools are being used as shelters.

Even if our area gets minimal effects from the storm, please remember, our district plays a vital role in supporting our community. County emergency management may need our school sites to open as shelters and our buses are often used to transport people to those shelters.

We encourage all our families and employees to take all necessary precautions at their homes and plan for the possible effects of Hurricane Dorian. You can stay up to date with the latest information on our district’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
