NWS Alert for Tampa Bay area

(NWS-Tampa) It is important not to let your guard down along the Florida west coast, just because the official forecast for Hurricane Irma is currently moving along Florida east coast this weekend. All of the Florida Peninsula remains within the cone of uncertainty for this storm, which means the forecast could certainly shift to the west or east somewhat over the next couple of day.

Even if the storm stays to our east, Hurricane Irma is a large areal storm, not a point on a map. The official forecast locations represent the center of circulation, however, significant impacts of wind, rain, and even storm surge can extended a long way from the center.

The Florida west coast is still under threat from a major hurricane. As long as your location remains in the cone of uncertainty, you need to be preparing for the impacts from a strong hurricane
