Rays Rout Cardinals To Win Series

The Tampa Bay Rays (63-67) defeated the St. Louis Cardinals (65-66) 7-2 on Sunday evening at Steinbrenner Field to win the three-game interleague series. This comes in a series finale in which the start of the game was delayed by 4:25 - from 12:10 PM ET to 4:35 PM ET - due to rain throughout the Tampa Bay area.

When the game did get underway, the Rays offense showed up starting in the fourth inning when Christopher Morel hit a solo homer for the lead. In the fifth Junior Caminero hit a grand slam to put the game out of reach. In the seventh, Chandler Simpson hit a two-run triple to account for the Rays offense.

Ryan Pepiot (9-10, 3.82) got the win after pitching five shutout innings in which he allowed just one hit while striking out three and walking one.

The Rays now travel to Cleveland to play the Guardians for a three-game series beginning on Monday night. First pitch Monday is scheduled for 6:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
