Rays Take Opener From Rangers

The Tampa Bay Rays (31-29) defeated the Texas Rangers (29-32) 5-1 on Tuesday night at Steinbrenner Field.

Kameron Misner hit a solo homer in the second to give the Rays the early lead. After a 17-minute rain delay, the game resumed and the Rays put together a three-run sixth which included a RBI single from Jake Mangum and saw Junior Caminero steal home as part of a double steal that made it 4-1.

Junior Caminero added a solo homer in the eighth inning to make it 5-1, which would prove to be the final score.

Drew Rasmussen (5-4, 2.14) got the start and extended his scoreless inning streak to 23 - Alex Cobb has the longest scoreless streak in franchise history by a starter, going 24 and 2/3 innings in early 2014. He pitched five shutout innings in which he allowed one hit on while striking out eight and walking none.

The Rays will now look to win the series against the Rangers coming up on Wednesday night. First pitch Wednesday is scheduled for 7:35 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting Inside Pitch at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
