Rays Salvage Series Finale At Wrigley

The Tampa Bay Rays (40-18) defeated the Chicago Cubs (24-30) 4-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Wigley Field. The Rays avoided being swept by the Cubs in the three game series, and became the first time in MLB to win 40 games.

After Chicago built a 2-0 lead that they took into the seventh inning, Brandon Lowe hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to tie the game 2-2. Though the Cubs answered with a run in the bottom of the seventh, Jose Siri answered with a two run blast in the eighth inning to give the Rays a 4-3 lead.

Zach Eflin pitched six innings in which he allowed three earned runs on four hits while striking out five and walking one. Colin Poche (4-1, 2.29) got the win out of the bullpen, while Jalen Beeks earned his first save of the season when he came in with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth and retired the two men he faced.

The Rays are now off on Thursday before beginning a four game series with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Friday night. Tyler Glasnow is expected to make his second start of the season since coming off the IL in the first game of the series. First pitch Friday night is scheduled for 7:10 PM - Ronnie & T-Kras begin pregame coverage with the Inside Pitch at 6:00 on 95.3WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Tampa Bay Rays Baseball.
