Rays Complete Sweep of Pirates

The Tampa Bay Rays (40-32) defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates (29-43) 4-2 on Sunday afternoon in Tropicana Field.

Tampa Bay began the scoring with a bases loaded walk to Vidal Brujan in the second inning. Brian Reynolds tied the game in the third inning for the Pirates, and 1-1 would be the score of this game heading into the seventh inning.

In the seventh, after Yandy Diaz doubled, Randy Arozarena reached on a fielders choice in which Yandy was tagged out at home for the second inning. Arozarena then was called off stealing second base - until the play was overturned on review and he was safe at second. Ji-Man Choi then hit a RBI double, before Josh Lowe and Isaac Paredes hit RBI singles, to gve the Rays a 4-1 lead.

The Pirates got one run back from a Daniel Vogelbach homer in the eighth, but 4-2 would prove to be the final score in favor of the Rays. Brooks Raley worked a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his fourth save of the season, which saved a win for Shane McClanahan (8-3, 1.77). McClanahan pitched seven innings on one run ball while striking out ten and walking none.

The Rays are now off on Monday before beginning a short two-game series with the Brewers on Tuesday. First pitch between Tampa Bay in Milwaukee is scheduled for 7:10 PM on Tuesday evening - Neil Solondz begins pregame coverage at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
