Rays Take Series From Tigers

The Tampa Bay Rays (23-15) defeated the Detroit Tigers (13-25) 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Tropicana Field. The Rays took two of the three game series and now have won two consecutive series.

The Rays took the lead early with a three-run first and made it 4-0 when Isaac Paredes hit a homer in the third inning. The Tigers got on the board with a homer from Spencer Torkelson in the top of the seventh, before Ji-Man Choi drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh. Paredes hit his second homer of the game in the eighth inning to give the Rays a 6-1 win.

Drew Rasmussen (4-1, 2.33) pitched five shutout innings in which he allowed four hits while striking out seven and walking none. Matt Wisler pitched two innings allowing one run, before Colin Poche and J.P. Feyereisen were perfect in the eighth and ninth, respectively.

The Rays are now off on Thursday before traveling to Baltimore for a three game series beginning on Friday night. The first game against the Orioles is scheduled for 7:05 PM on Friday night - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher hosting the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
