Rays Rout Tigers To Even Series

The Tampa Bay Rays (22-15) defeated the Detroit Tigers (13-24) 8-1 on Tuesday evening at Tropicana Field.

The Rays got a single run in the first and a Kevin Kiermaier home run in the second to build a early 2-0 lead. They added a third run in the fourth inning when Kiermaier hit a RBI single for his second run driven in of the day.

Detroit answered with a single run in the top of the fifth, but the Rays countered with three in the bottom of the fifth, including a solo shot from Brett Phillips. The Rays added two runs of insurance in the eighth, which included a solo shot from Randy Arozarena.

Shane McClanahan (3-2, 2.33) set the pace, pitching seven innings of one run ball in which he allowed four hits while striking out seven and walking none. Ralph Garza, Jr, closed the game out with two shutout innings out of the bullpen.

The Rays will now look to win the three game series against the Tigers on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch from Tropicana Field is scheduled for 1:10 PM on Wednesday - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher hosting the Inside Pitch at high noon on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
