Red Sox Win Wild Card, Will Face Rays In ALDS

The Rays now know who their opponent will be in the ALDS. The Red Sox eliminated the Yankees with a 6-2 win in the AL Wild Card game on Tuesday night and will take on the Rays in the Best-of-Five American League Division Series which begins on Thursday at Tropicana Field.

Boston got a two-run homer from Xander Bogarts in the first and a solo shot from Kyle Schwarber in the third to build a 3-0 lead. After Anthony Rizzo homered for New York to pull the Yankees within 3-1 in the sixth, Alex Verdugo added some separation with a two-run double in the sixth and an RBI single in the seventh to build a 6-1 lead. Giancarlo Stanton homered in the seventh to pull the Yankees to 6-2, which would be as close as New York would get.

Former Ray Nathan Eovaldi (1-0, 1.69) picked up the win for Boston, pitching five and a third innings allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight and walking one. Yankees ace Gerrit Cole (0-1, 13.50) lasted only two innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits before being pulled without getting an out in the third inning.

After getting into the American League Wild Card on the final day, the Yankees season is now over. The Boston Red Sox will travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Rays beginning on Thursday night. First pitch from Tropicana Field is scheduled for 8:07 PM - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher and the Inside Pitch at 7:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
