Yankees Secure Wild Card Spot With Win Over Rays On Final Day

Aaron Judge hit a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the New York Yankees to a 1-0 win over the Rays on Sunday afternoon. The win gives the Yankees a wild card spot in the upcoming American League playoffs, while the Rays finished their spectacular regular season with a record of 100-62.

This game was a pitching duel throughout. The Rays Michael Wacha got the start and pitched five shutout innings, allowing just one hit, before a combination of five relievers came in and allowed only the one run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Josh Fleming (10-8, 5.09) took the loss out of the bullpen.

The Yankees will now travel to Boston in the American League Wild card game on Tuesday night. The winner of that game will face the Rays in the best-of-five ALDS which begins on Thursday at Tropicana Field. Keep it locked to 95.3 WDAE & AM 620 for the latest, including every game of the Rays 2021 playoff run.
