Rays Clinch Second Consecutive AL East Crown

The Tampa Bay Rays (96-59) defeated the Miami Marlins (64-90) 7-3 on Saturday night to clinch their second consecutive AL East championship. It is also the fourth division crown in franchise history.

The Marlins struck first when Miguel Rojas homered in the third, but the Rays answered with an RBI double from Joey Wendle in the fourth and a two-run blast to right field in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. The Rays pulled away late with a Brandon Lowe RBI double in the seventh, then in the eighth Brett Phillips drove in a run on a sacrifice fly before Brandon Lowe added another RBI double to secure a 7-3 victory.

Shane McClanahan (10-6, 3.44) pitched five innings allowing one earned run on six hits while striking out three and walking one to pick up the win.

The Rays will look to sweep the three game series with the Marlins on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM - pregame coverage begins at 12:30 PM on AM 620 WDAE.
