Rays Snap Skid, Blow Past Yankees Friday Night

The Tampa Bay Rays (6-8) defeated the New York Yankees (5-8) 8-2 on Friday night in the Brox.

The Rays scored early and often, beginning with a two-run double from Brandon Lowe in the first inning. Tampa Bay added four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to build an 8-0 lead. Giancarlo Stanton gave the Yankees their only offense with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Michael Wacha (1-1, 4.20) was tremendous on the mound for the Rays, throwing six innings of shutout baseball on just one hit while striking out nine and walking two.

The Rays now look to win the series against the Yankees on Saturday when they meet in the second game of the series. First pitch Saturday is scheduled for 1:05 with pregame coverage beginning at 12:30 on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
