Chris Archer Heads To IL After Rays Get 4-0 Win Over Yankees

The Tampa Bay Rays (4-4) shut out the New York Yankees (3-5) 4-0 on Saturday afternoon at Tropicana Field.

Chris Archer got the start for Tampa Bay, but left the game after two and one-third innings of shutout baseball with forearm tightness and is heading to the injured list, though he and manager Kevin Cash sounded hopeful afterwards that it would not be a long term situation.

Austin Meadows got the scoring started for the Rays with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. Francisco Mejia drove in two runs with a single in the second inning, and Randy Arozarena homered in the third to round out the Tampa Bay offense.

The Rays will now look to sweep the Yankees when the two teams meet on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 with pregame coverage beginning with Neil Solondz and This Week in Rays Baseball at 11:30 on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
