Honeywell Has Another Procedure On Elbow

ST. PETERSBURG (WDAE) -- The thought of possibly having right-handed pitcher Brent Honeywell on the big league staff in 2020 took a big hit this week.

The Tampa Bay Rays announced Thursday that the right-hander underwent a procedure to decompress the right ulnar nerve in Los Angeles Wednesday.

The team said Dr. Neal ElAttrache and Dr. Steven Shin cleaned out scar tissue around the nerve in the operation.

The procedure is the third Honeywell has undergone on his elbow since tearing his ulnar collateral ligament during a Spring Training live batting practice session February 22, 2018. After undergoing Tommy John surgery and missing all of 2018, he had a second procedure in 2019 after fracturing his elbow while throwing a pitch during a bullpen session in Port Charlotte.

The team expects Honeywell to begin strength and mobility exercises Monday at their Spring Training facility in Port Charlotte.
