Rays Don't Feel They Must Make Move At Meetings

SAN DIEGO (WDAE) -- The 2019 Winter Meetings have begun in earnest, and while we expect some wheeling and dealing to be done over the next four days (including reports that the Nationals have backed the Brinks truck up for Stephen Strasburg), you may not see the Rays name get mentioned at all for deals.

Vice President of baseball operations James Click joined Steve Carney Monday on The Inside Pitch, and mentioned how the mentality of the room has changed in the dozen years he's been with the club.

"There used to be more of a feeling that we needed to do something while we're here," Click said. "Everybody feels the pressure of the meetings: everybody's here, there feels like there should be action. Not falling into that mental trap, that feeling that you need to do something just to have done something is something that I think we're all very cognizant of."

But don't look at the lack of visibility from the team as the front office not doing their job while here.

"That doesn't mean were not looking to do things," Click said. "We're having a lot of conversations. We're certainly trying to figure out the lay of the land. We're looking for opportunities, but I don't think we're going to stay up until 5 or 6 in the morning every night like we did in past years trying to find something to do before we hop on the plane back."

Click also discussed why some conversations between clubs are quick whereas others make take more time and a more circuitous route, and how the trade of Tommy Pham was roundly booed in his own house!
