Neander Named MLB Executive Of The Year By The Sporting News

After manager Kevin Cash was named American League Manager of the Year earlier in the afternoon, the man who runs the front office took some hardware of his own home Wednesday.

Rays general manager and senior vice president of baseball operations Erik Neander was named MLB's Executive of the Year Wednesday by The Sporting News.

In a survey of 25 MLB executives, Neander was named on six ballots, beating out Atlanta Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos, who received five votes.

Neander's acquisitions of Tommy Pham, Austin Meadows and Tyler Glasnow at the trade deadline in 2018, coupled with the signing of pitcher Charlie Morton last offseason and reliever Nick Anderson at this year's deadline, helped the Rays reach the postseason in 2019 for the first time in six years with 96 wins.

Neander is the second Rays executive to win the award, following Andrew Friedman's win in 2008.
