One Tampa Bay Rays prospect will get a chance to try and qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
USA Baseball announced their Premier12 roster Thursday, which will include shortstop and pitcher Jake Cronenworth.
The United States will play three games in Guadalajara, Mexico from November 2-4 against Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and the Netherlands, and the top two finishers will advance to a Super Round later in the month in Tokyo. The top finisher from the group will automatically qualify for the 2020 Summer Games, joining Japan and Israel.
Cronenworth played 88 games with the Rays Triple-A affiliate, the Durham Bulls, hitting .334/.429/.520 with 10 homers and 45 RBI, plus pitched in seven games, allowing two unearned runs on four hits in 7 1/3 innings.
