Tampa, FL - Hundreds of animals found new homes during a weekend adoption event held at two Tampa Bay shelters.
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay announced that 238 pets were adopted during the final weekend of the nationwide Clear The Shelters campaign.
Adoption fees were waived at the nonprofit organization's Hillsborough and Pinellas campuses from August 28th through August 30th.
The promotion included available dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and other small animals.
Shelter officials said hundreds of visitors attended the event as families searched for pets to adopt.
The organization credited adopters, volunteers, donors and community members who promoted the campaign with helping the animals find homes.
Each completed adoption also created space for another animal requiring shelter, food, medical care or adoption assistance.
The Hillsborough shelter is located on North Armenia Avenue in Tampa.
The Pinellas campus is on State Road 590 in Clearwater.
Both locations normally process adoptions seven days a week.
The Humane Society provides shelter and adoption services for homeless and at-risk animals.
It also operates veterinary programs, community outreach services and volunteer initiatives throughout Tampa Bay.
Clear The Shelters is an annual adoption and fundraising campaign organized by NBCUniversal Local.
NBC and Telemundo stations work with shelters and rescue organizations across the country to promote available animals and collect donations.
The 2026 adoption campaign ran from August 1st through August 31st, while its national fundraising effort continued through September 15th.
Since the initiative began in 2015, more than 1.3 million pets have been adopted and over $5.6 million has been raised for participating shelters and rescue organizations.
