Fort Myers, FL - A Florida man was arrested early Thanksgiving morning after a high speed pursuit that began on Daniels Parkway and ended with troopers using a PIT maneuver on State Road 82.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident started at around 3:30 a.m. when a trooper attempted to pull over a Toyota Camry that was allegedly traveling 107 mph in a 45 mph zone.
The driver, identified as 21 year old Baldimir Domingo Lopez of Lehigh Acres, allegedly sped away, weaved through traffic and ran a red light while fleeing the traffic stop.
FHP reported that Lopez continued driving recklessly during the pursuit, including going the wrong way on the roadway.
Troopers said three FHP patrol vehicles sustained damage as they attempted to stop the fleeing Camry.
The chase came to an end when a trooper performed a PIT maneuver on State Road 82, causing the vehicle to stop.
When troopers approached the car, they reported seeing a BeatBox alcoholic drink inside the vehicle and observed signs of impairment.
Lopez allegedly showed a blood alcohol concentration of 0.135 during testing.
He was taken into custody and transported to the Lee County Jail.
Lopez was charged with fleeing and eluding at high speeds, driving under the influence, three counts of DUI with property damage and three counts of reckless driving with property damage.
FHP noted that Lopez also received a $2,500 fine under Florida’s super speeding statute for what was identified as his second offense.
The investigation remains ongoing.
