Miami-Dade, FL - A physical altercation broke out at a southwest Miami-Dade Publix on Thursday evening, resulting in at least one arrest and multiple people being removed from the store.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. at the Publix in Colonial Plaza Shopping Center at 9510 SW 160th Street in Palmetto Estates.
Deputies report that the confrontation began as an aggressive verbal argument between two groups near the store’s entrance.
Bystander video shows two women fighting on the floor near the greeting card section.
During the struggle, 20-year-old Climont Mann reportedly intervened while shirtless, picking up a dislodged metal shelf and striking one of the women multiple times.
One of the women’s wigs was knocked off during the altercation.
Deputies responding to the scene observed two large groups of people outside the store throwing plates and other objects at each other.
Both groups were trespassed from the Publix.
The cause of the initial argument has not been disclosed.
Mann, who lives about a mile from the shopping center, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct.
The criminal mischief charge was later dropped in bond court.
As of Friday, he remained in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with a $5,150 bond.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident, noting the risks associated with public fights and the use of improvised weapons.
