Starke, FL - Victor Tony Jones, 64, was executed Tuesday for the 1990 murders of Matilda and Jacob Nestor during a robbery at their Miami business.
Jones was pronounced dead at 6:13 p.m. following a lethal injection at Florida State Prison in Starke, marking Florida’s 13th execution in 2025, the highest annual total in state history.
Court records show that in December 1990, Jones, a new employee at the Nestors’ Miami business, allegedly stabbed Matilda Nestor in the neck and Jacob Nestor in the chest.
Despite his injuries, Jacob Nestor retrieved a .22-caliber pistol and fired at Jones, striking him in the forehead.
Police found Jones at the scene with the Nestors’ money and personal property in his possession.
He was hospitalized, convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and armed robbery in 1993, and sentenced to death.
Jones filed appeals citing intellectual disability and alleged abuse at a state-run reform school as a teen.
The Florida Supreme Court denied these claims, noting that the disability issue had already been litigated and abuse allegations were not presented at trial.
The U.S. Supreme Court also rejected a final appeal without comment.
The Nestors’ medical supply store was located in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood, now a cultural and arts district, and the building is currently a community center.
Irene Fisher, the victims’ daughter, attended the execution with her family and stated she was relieved justice had been carried out.
Florida has executed more individuals than any other state in 2025, with two additional executions scheduled next month: Samuel Lee Smithers on October 14 and Norman Mearle Grim Jr. on October 28.
