There are 27 candidates currently in the running to be the next Governor of the State of Florida. In addition to Southwest Florida Congressman Byron Donalds and former Florida House Speaker Paul Renner, there are six candidates in the Republican Primary.
Daniel Imperato is one of those candidates and he spent some time with us, sharing his story and why he believes he is the best candidate to run this state.
Imperato says he has been in Florida for nearly 50 years and touts "extensive global experience." His work professional background includes commercial real estate infrastructure, telecommunications and other industries.
He claims to be more experienced than Byron Donalds and says he "probably has underwear older than him."
Imperato says he has visited over 150 countries as both a businessman and a political candidate. He ran for president in 2008, and again last year. He also ran for governor in 2010.
Imperato tells us he doesn't think there's a candidate in the race that could compare with his "education, experience and ability to represent the people."
The candidate says he's known President Trump for 40 years, acknowledging that Trump has endorsed Donalds in this race. But Imperato adds "We'll see what our president does pertaining to the support that he wants to throw behind a candidate that is predominantly from the same cut of cloth that he was, being a northeasterner and a street smart guy."
He says Florida has issues with jobs, median income and the cost of living, citing property insurance concerns. And he wants the chance to fix the issues.
