Manatee County, FL - A 14-year-old student in Manatee County was arrested after allegedly posting a threat of a school shooting on Snapchat.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving notice of the threatening message around 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Deputies said the ninth-grade student at Braden River High School allegedly stated he intended to shoot multiple people at the school.
The teen was charged with written or electronic threats to kill, cause bodily injury, or commit a mass shooting or act of terrorism.
He was taken into custody early Monday and transported to the Manatee County Juvenile Detention Center.
Following a search of the student’s home, deputies confirmed that he did not have access to any unsecured firearms.
As a precaution, additional deputies were stationed at Braden River High School on Monday while officials monitored the campus.
Sheriff Rick Wells emphasized that student safety remains a top priority and that all threats are treated seriously.
“Making school threats is a serious matter and results in significant consequences. If you see a threat, report it immediately,” Wells said.
Residents are encouraged to report any threatening information to law enforcement directly or through the Fortify Florida app.
Law enforcement continues to monitor the situation and maintain measures to protect students and staff.
