Sumter County, FL - A Tampa man was arrested in Sumter County after allegedly installing a siren and emergency-style lights on his truck to move through traffic on I-75.

The Florida Highway Patrol said multiple reports on September 7th described a Dodge Ram pickup traveling southbound with yellow and white lights activated and a siren sounding, prompting troopers to respond.

Witnesses told authorities the driver allegedly used the lights and siren to force other vehicles out of his lane.

Officers stopped the truck and questioned the driver, identified as 50-year-old Anthony Lee Tripp of Tampa.

Tripp allegedly admitted to having lights on the vehicle but denied the presence of a siren.

A search of the vehicle revealed a “siren box” on the floorboard.

When activated by the trooper, the device reportedly produced a loud siren.

Tripp, who is registered as a convicted sexual predator, was arrested for false impersonation, and the vehicle was seized.

Florida Highway Patrol officials noted that using unauthorized emergency equipment on a personal vehicle is illegal and considered impersonating law enforcement or emergency personnel.

Authorities confirmed that no accidents or injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

Troopers are continuing their investigation to determine if further charges are warranted.
