Tallahassee, FL - A Florida man convicted of killing his estranged wife’s sister and parents and setting fire to their home is scheduled for execution later this year.

David Pittman, 63, is set to be executed on September 17th under a death warrant signed by Governor Ron DeSantis.

This will be the 12th execution scheduled in Florida in 2025, a record for the state.

Two other men, Kayle Bates and Curtis Windom, are also scheduled for execution later this month.

Since the death penalty was reinstated in Florida in 1976, no year had exceeded eight executions until now.

Florida has already executed nine people this year, more than any other state, while Texas and South Carolina each have four.

Nationwide, 28 people have been executed in 2025, surpassing the 25 in 2024 and matching totals from 2015.

Pittman was convicted in 1991 of three counts of first-degree murder related to the deaths of Clarence and Barbara Knowles and their daughter Bonnie, according to Polk County court records.

He was also found guilty of arson and grand theft.

Court documents indicate that in May 1990, while Pittman and his wife Marie were divorcing, he allegedly went to her parents’ home, fatally stabbing them and Bonnie before setting the house on fire.

Investigators said he allegedly stole Bonnie’s car and set it on fire. Witnesses identified Pittman fleeing from the vehicle, and a jailhouse informant testified he had admitted to the killings.

The Florida Supreme Court is scheduled to hear an appeal, and a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court is expected.
