Ponce Inlet, FL - A small plane crashed on a sandbar near Ponce Inlet on Wednesday afternoon, with the pilot being the sole occupant.

The crash occurred around 1 p.m. near Disappearing Island, as confirmed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The aircraft involved was a Piper PA-12.

According to the FAA, the pilot was the only person aboard the plane when it went down, and no other injuries were reported.

The wreckage was found upside down on the sandbar, located off Florida's eastern coast.

Witnesses said the plane descended rapidly before it struck the sandbar.

Emergency responders were immediately dispatched to the scene, and the pilot was assisted after the crash.

Although initial reports confirmed the pilot survived, their condition has not yet been disclosed.

The sandbar, which is often exposed at low tide, made it difficult for rescue personnel to reach the plane quickly.

The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash, but no official statement has been made regarding the circumstances leading to the incident.

The local authorities, alongside the FAA, are working to gather more information.

As of now, no additional details about the crash or the pilot’s identity have been released.

Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
