Interfaith and civil rights organizations are demanding action from South Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
They're holding an emergency "Pots and Pans Protest" and interfaith vigil this afternoon outside her Sunrise office.
Council on American Islamic Relations Communications Director Wilfredo Ruiz says, "The politicians need to hear from their constituents on the lowest level possible, at the closest level possible to their district, that the majority of their constituents are not OK with the state of Israel starving Gaza children."
He adds, Representative Wasserman Schultz is the focus of their first non-partisan protests because she has a history of unconditionally favoring Israel.
"We did not consider if it was a GOP politician or democrat politician. It doesn't matter. The only thing that mattered to us is if my elected official is favoring the war in Gaza that is causing a man-made famine that is a war crime."
He compares it to apartheid in South Africa, where the United States was a business partner with the country and was one of the last to recognize it.
So far, the Congresswoman's office has not responded to a request for a comment about the call for her to denounce the famine and the protest outside her office.
