Having a plan now will ensure that you're ready to protect your home and your family in the event of a storm. That's what FPL Spokesman Jack Eble says, adding that the power giant has made some upgrades over recent years to get customers back on the grid fast.
"We've really improved the resiliency of the electric grid, making it more stronger, smarter and storm resilient in the face of hurricanes and severe weather."
Among those upgrades are buried power lines, lowering the number of lines that are above ground and may be susceptible to strong winds.
The power giant is promoting hurricane prep on this first day of Hurricane Season.
"We have a website, FPL.com/Storm, that's really valuable to really any Floridians that are thinking about refreshing or starting their emergency plans. It has a lot of tips on preparing your home and or business for hurricanes."
He says one of the most important tips is making a plan to help a loved one who may require electricity for medical equipment, such as a dialysis machine. That's something that's easier to handle now, when you're not stressed out in the path of a storm.
