Swim safety top of mind as we head into this Memorial Day Weekend. Miren Oca with Miami-Dade's Drowning Prevention Coalition says just because your kids take swim lessons does not mean they're water safe, so always designate a water watcher. That person must be off their phone and paying attention at all times. She says you can think of safety in layers of protection, from lessons to pool fences and gate alarms. Nearly one hundred people drowned in South Florida last year alone. The state has a swimming-lesson voucher program for those who qualify.
