Miami-Dade, FL - Florida continues to rank among the most perilous states for drivers, with new data showing that several of its metro areas, including Miami and Fort Lauderdale, top the list for risky driving habits.
The findings come from a nationwide report released by Life360, a family safety and location tracking app that analyzed billions of data points from users’ phones to assess driving behavior.
Using sensors that track speed, sudden braking, and fast acceleration, the app identified Florida as home to five of the eight U.S. cities with the most crash-prone drivers.
Fort Lauderdale, in particular, ranked second in the country for rapid acceleration, one of several behaviors tied to higher crash risks.
According to Life360 spokesperson Mike Zeman, the app defines a crash as a collision occurring at speeds of 25 mph or higher, based on a combination of GPS and motion sensor inputs.
The report also highlights broader concerns about distracted driving across the U.S. Around 86% of surveyed drivers admitted to some form of tech-related distraction while behind the wheel.
Additionally, 27% said they’ve changed clothes or applied makeup while driving, and nearly half of Gen Z respondents confessed to watching videos while on the road.
Life360 recommends families regularly review driving reports to build safer habits through ongoing dialogue.
