Miami, FL - Musician Sean Kingston is back in federal custody in South Florida after being unable to meet the terms of his bond following a high-profile fraud conviction involving over $1 million in luxury goods.
Kingston, whose legal name is Kisean Paul Anderson, was ordered into custody last week after failing to provide the $100,000 cash portion of a bond required for his release.
He is currently being held at the Federal Detention Center in Miami as he awaits sentencing.
In March, a federal jury found Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and multiple counts of wire fraud.
Prosecutors allege the pair engaged in a year-long scheme that involved using forged wire transfers and fake payment confirmations to acquire high-end items, including a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade, designer jewelry, luxury furniture, and a massive LED television, without paying.
According to investigators, Kingston leveraged his celebrity status to convince vendors to deliver goods under the assumption that payment was imminent.
When challenged, he and his mother allegedly provided fake documentation to stall or avoid payment altogether.
Turner, described by prosecutors as the financial coordinator of the scheme, was taken into custody immediately after the verdict.
She has a prior fraud conviction dating back to 2006.
Despite arguments from the defense that some items were returned or paid for, prosecutors emphasized the deliberate nature of the deception.
Both Kingston and Turner face potential prison sentences of up to 20 years per count. Sentencing is scheduled for July 11, 2025.
