Residents of one Treasure Coast city were surprised by the opening of a new gas station, but not all of them are happy about it.
A new Costco is set to open off Kanner Highway in Stuart on April 25th, but the warehouse store's gas station opened this week, ahead of schedule. It debuted with the lowest price for gas in Martin County at 2-73 a gallon.
But despite that and the deals that will soon be offered in the store, some residents fear the excess traffic the Costco is expected to bring. It's part of a multi-use project that includes a shopping center and well over 300 apartment units.
City officials say the roadways are able to handle the traffic and there is a plan in place to build a new four-lane road to help.
The new Stuart Costco will be the only along the east coast between Palm Beach Gardens and Melbourne.
