The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office recently gathered at the West Palm Beach headquarters of the Police Benevolent Association for the Fallen Deputy Memorial Wall Ceremony, where sadly three names were added to it.
PBSO motor deputies Ralph "Butch" Waller, Ignacio "Dan" Diaz and Corporal Luis Paez were killed by a vehicle while working alongside Southern Boulevard in November.
Sheriff Ric Bradshaw gave a speech to the crowd, and the agency later posted some of those comments in a video on social media.
"The hardest thing that I have to do, without a doubt, is when I lose a member of the agency is to look these families in the eyes and see the tremendous, tremendous pain that they have. It's a feeling that you never forget."
Checks for more than $228,000 each were presented to the deputies' families and each also received $8,000 from the nonprofit Tour D Force Florida, which raises money to help the loved ones of fallen law enforcement officers.
PBSO's post writes that "while no gesture can replace their loved ones, we want their families to know they are not alone, we will always stand by them" and "We will never forget."
