Just like Calle Ocho has an Azucar street for Celia Cruz, "This is, in a sense, our Azcar," says Miami-Dade County Commissioner Keon Hardemon.
He's sponsored a resolution, which was overwhelmingly approved today, to co-designate some Liberty City streets after local musical artists and their works including "Big Money Baller Street," "I Luv My Dawgs Street" and "Welcome to My House Street."
"I think this, in and of itself, has created enough buzz to really attract people to this space," he says.
The goal is to get people to spend money in the area.
There was just some minor pushback from Commissioner Eileen Higgins: "The only one that worries me, as a woman is 'Grind with Me Terrace.' I don't want to walk down any street where somebody can say that to me without my permission."
Commissioner Rene Garcia agreed, "Even though that I'm not a big fan of some of the lyrics in some of lyrics in some of these songs, who am I to stand in the way of trying to do something innovative for your community and for your constituency."
"Grind with Me Terrace" will be changed. Proposed "Act Up Street" and "Poor Little Rich Girl Street" have also been changed.
