Key West, FL - A significant downpour led to unprecedented rainfall in Key West on Monday, resulting in widespread flooding across the city.
The heavy rain began early in the day, with the most intense precipitation occurring by mid-afternoon.
This deluge prompted multiple flood advisories throughout the area.
While many locations in the Florida Keys received between one-third of an inch to 1.5 inches of rain, Key West experienced exceptional totals, with some areas reporting nearly 9 inches of rainfall.
The X account (formerly Twitter) WeatherNation posted a video showing Monday's damage, writing "Heavy rainfall has provided much-needed relief to Florida, but it has also caused flooding in Key West. At least 3-6" of rain have fallen in just 3 hours! #FLwx"
At Key West International Airport, 3.13 inches of rain were recorded, surpassing the previous daily record of 1.62 inches set in 1892.
The sudden and heavy rainfall led to significant street flooding, disrupting transportation and daily activities.
