Key Largo, FL - Dashboard and body camera videos released this week captured the moments a South Florida attempted murder suspect stole a sheriff's deputy's cruiser, carjacked a woman, and crashed her SUV.
The videos, obtained by Local 10 News WPLG this week, show what happened on December 22nd in Key Largo.
Monroe County Sheriff's Office say deputies responded to a domestic violence call at a residence on Palm Drive in Key Largo.
According to the arrest affidavit, the suspect, identified as 52-year-old Armando Lopez, allegedly attacked his 30-year-old ex-girlfriend during an argument, throwing her against a glass object, repeatedly punching her, and stating that "today would be the day she dies."
He then allegedly attempted to suffocate her by stuffing a cleaning cloth soaked with Fabuloso into her mouth and strangled her while threatening to kill her.
Upon arrival, MCSO Sgt. James Hager attempted to apprehend Lopez.
The affidavit states that Lopez punched the sergeant and tried to unholster the deputy's firearm unsuccessfully.
During the struggle, the sergeant ended up on top of Lopez's 3-year-old son.
Lopez then fled, evading a Taser deployment, and managed to steal the sergeant's patrol car.
Dashboard camera footage shows Lopez driving the stolen cruiser with emergency lights activated to The Sandal Factory on Overseas Highway.
There, he allegedly carjacked a 46-year-old woman by forcibly removing her from her SUV.
A high-speed chase ensued, ending near mile marker 104 when Lopez crashed the stolen SUV, causing it to roll over.
Deputies apprehended Lopez at the scene.
The victim sustained multiple injuries, including fractures to her jaw, eye socket, and cranium.
Lopez faces numerous charges, including attempted murder, carjacking, burglary, impersonating an officer, and fleeing and eluding law enforcement.
He remains in custody without bond at the Monroe County Sheriff's Office jail facility.
