Hialeah, FL - A driver brazenly performed donuts in the same intersection where a devastating crash killed three women nearly a year ago as a news crew reported on the ongoing reckless driving issues in a Hialeah neighborhood.
On Friday, reporters from Telemundo 51 were covering an update on the deadly April 2024 accident at the intersection of Southeast 5th Avenue and Southeast 4th Street when a red car suddenly began spinning in circles behind them.
The shocking moment, captured on camera, underscored the persistent danger residents have been warning about for months.
Local residents say the intersection remains a hotspot for reckless driving, with speeding, drifting, and dangerous stunts occurring regularly.
“That car comes and does donuts in the middle of the night. It’s very concerning,” resident Karen Monjado told NBC 6 South Florida.
Another local, Jackeline Coiza, voiced frustration over the lack of stop signs and traffic control. “Cars speed here all the time. There are also only two stop signs,” she said, emphasizing the need for urgent safety measures.
The intersection gained tragic notoriety in April 2024 when then-15-year-old Maykoll Santiesteban allegedly crashed his parents’ SUV while speeding at over 80 mph in a 30 mph zone.
The crash claimed the lives of 39-year-old Yarina Garcia Hernandez, her 71-year-old aunt Gloria Hernandez Molina, and, months later, Garcia Hernandez’s 66-year-old mother, Liliana Hernandez Molina.
Now 16, Santiesteban pleaded guilty last week to charges related to the crash and is awaiting sentencing, facing the possibility of decades in prison.
