Several Counties Announces School Closures Ahead Of Hurricane Milton

Palm Beach County, FL - As Hurricane Milton continues its trajectory toward Florida, local school districts are implementing precautionary measures to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Okeechobee County Schools has taken the most significant action, announcing closures from Tuesday, October 8th through Thursday, October 10th.

Some school facilities may be repurposed as shelters during this period.

Palm Beach County Schools and Martin County School District have decided to remain open on Monday, October 7th.

However, Indian River County School District is expected to decide on closures later in the day.

St. Lucie County School District is closely monitoring the storm's progress and is in communication with local emergency management agencies.

While some districts have announced specific plans, the situation remains fluid as the hurricane's path evolves.

Updates are anticipated from other Florida school districts as more information becomes available.

Hurricane Milton continues to strengthen as it barrels toward Florida.

As of Monday morning, the storm is a Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 150 mph.

Forecasters predict it could intensify further before making landfall on the state's west coast later this week.
