Miami-Dade, FL - An 18-year-old man is facing child neglect charges after a 14-year-old boy under his care was discovered wandering barefoot and in diapers along a busy South Florida roadway on Monday.
According to reports, Miami-Dade Police responded to reports of a person in distress around 2:30 p.m.
The teen, described as disoriented and vulnerable, was found crossing a major thoroughfare while barefoot and in diapers.
Officers launched an immediate search to locate the teen's home and identify his caregiver.
After hours of canvassing the area, police reunited the teen with his family.
Investigations revealed that the teen's mother had entrusted his care to Maike Mendoza, a family acquaintance.
Authorities allege that Mendoza left the home, leaving the child unattended for an extended period.
Mendoza was arrested and charged with child neglect.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine if additional charges will be filed.
The condition of the teen is unknown at this time.
