When kids return to class in Martin County August 10th, there will be a new policy regarding cell phones and other wireless devices.

The School District has updated its Student Code of Conduct to state that all visible or in-use wireless communication devices, such as cell phones, smartwatches and earbuds, will be confiscated during school hours.

Parents or guardians will have to schedule a time to retrieve the devices from administrators and repeated offenses will be considered insubordination and could lead to suspension for the student.

The school district says the goal of the new policy is to create a distraction-free setting for all students.
