Lake Wales, FL - A Lake Wales woman has been arrested following an incident where she allegedly ran over a man and a 16-month-old child with her car during a heated argument.
According to Polk County authorities, the altercation escalated when 27-year-old Aaliyah Ross deliberately drove her vehicle toward the man as he held the baby, subsequently hitting them and crashing into a nearby building.
The distressing incident occurred in Orange County, where Ross was later detained.
Sheriff Judd detailed that Ross had previously threatened the man in similar ways but had swerved away at the last moment.
This time, however, the threat became a grim reality. "Aaliyah Ross made a series of incredibly unthinkable choices Monday: running over a man and a baby with a car, leaving the baby alone, and failing to get medical treatment for the obviously injured baby," Judd stated, condemning her actions.
The victims were immediately rushed to the hospital.
The man suffered bruising across his body and lungs, while the young child sustained severe injuries including a broken shoulder, collarbone, ribs, a partially collapsed lung, and numerous abrasions.
Ross now faces severe legal consequences, including charges of aggravated child abuse, aggravated battery, negligent child abuse, and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.
